Ecoseat going First Class for GWR Class 166

The Ecoseat, designed by Quantum Seating with mattress and furniture spring manufacturer, Spinks, is being fitted across the first class area of a Great Western Railway Class 166 this month (February 2025) with the roll out planned across further areas.

The Ecoseat has glue-free pocket microcoil technology. Funding was awarded by the Department for Transport and Innovate UK's First of a Kind programme to bring the seat to market. 

South Western Railway have also expressed an interest in retrofitting its trains with the cushions. 

The spring seat is competitive on price against traditional seating as well as improving comfort, offering a longer life, lower environmental impact and full recyclability. 

We are using a 'Squirming Herman' device for accelerated endurance testing, which has now simulated 14 years of the harsh life of a train seat.
